Berlin and Budapest amazing eats

My tale of two amazing cities (through the medium of food). It was an amazing summer which is why I’ve become a lazy madam with the blog! I don’t usually write about other restaurants but I went to Budapest and Berlin recently and I need to talk about some rather tasty places to eat. Please go to all of them now!

‘Madami Vietnamese Restaurant’ Berlin

We had been to rural Germany earlier on in the summer and we’d eaten barrels of curry wurst and palettes of schnitzel. Therefore, when we went to Berlin, we wanted to have some multicultural grub. We had a hankering for some Vietnamese. This place was great- we had glass noodles for starters and crispy duck salad for our main course. We could have had this every night and for about 30-40€  (including beer) between us we wouldn’t have been broke!  It’s just a bit upsetting when the glass noodles are prettier than you!

‘Restaurant Jolly’ (Szechuan) Berlin

We went here twice because I have a Gyoza addiction. And now a chicken dumpling addiction. We had those and a Szechuan beef dish (one between two is plenty) and those little Szechuan peppercorns are addictive. We kept on picking them out and eating them until our faces went numb. A great place to eat and have a few chilled out beers (about 40€ tops).

‘Dada Falafel’ Berlin

This place had a concise menu and most people just got the ‘Dada Plate’ it was 8€ each and you get your lovely Lebanese fix! Tasty, quick service and in a great location.

‘Halászbástya’ Budapest

Firstly, the beloved ask me to go to this restaurant because he’d been the previous year on a stag do. It is on the ‘Buda’ side of the river in the old town and it is lovely for a special occasion. You have a view of the entire city and impeccable waiter service. Great Hungarian wine, and the food was superb. I had smoked salmon to start and duck for my main course (they haven’t got the memo yet regarding foie gras and how frowned upon it is- so go nuts!)

I started to suspect that he hadn’t been here because it was a tad too fancy for a stag do! I couldn’t imagine his mates being serenaded by a violin while drinking champagne. My suspicions were confirmed when he got down on one knee and proposed! It’s a nice touch to have a resident string quartet to make the experience all the more sweet. The duck was that good that it nearly matched the wonderful proposal. Pop about £180/200€ aside and go here. It’s still cheaper than a meal of its kind in a city like Paris or London.

Berlin and Budapest have shot up to the top five cities I’ve ever been to. Go if you haven’t yet. Or go again!
